APMA and CIAM Call on Government Officials to Level the Playing Field for Macau Creators
Music creators' councils come to MACA’s aide in negotiations with local broadcaster
Broadcasters use musical works on a daily basis, which supports business operations by providing access to creative works but also allow these pieces to be widely known to the public. Under proper licensing agreements, broadcasters and collective management organisations (CMO) representing creators can foster an environment that nurtures authors and businesses.
The Asia-Pacific Music Creators Alliance (APMA) and CIAM has sent a letter of support to local government officials to reinforce MACA’s efforts in negotiations to introduce an internationally prevailing broadcast rate in Macau. In the country, broadcaster Teledifusão de Macau (TDM) has been broadcasting works without a proper license. MACA has been seeking a solution that reflects the domestic and international markets, yet TDM has only responded with “an undesirable price” for the broadcast of these works.
To construct a mutually beneficial environment for creators and business alike, Japanese composer, songwriter and APMA Chair Shunichi Tokura has sent a letter to local government officials explaining the situation, declaring APMA’s and CIAM’s support for MACA’s efforts and requesting government assistance in coming to an amicable agreement between the CMO and broadcaster.
