CIAM President Eddie Schwartz inducted into Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame
Songwriter, producer, artist and advocate for music creators Eddie Schwartz was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (CSHF) on May 9th in Toronto, Ontario. CIAM’s President was recognized not only for his contributions to songwriting but also his advocacy work. CSHF Executive Director Vanessa Thomas said, “Eddie pursues everything from his heart, whether it’s advocating for the rights of music creators or pouring his talent into songwriting. His passion and commitment to the music industry has inspired countless artists around him, as well as the next generation of music trailblazers.”
Eddie is best known for writing “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” recorded by Pat Benatar, “The Doctor” by the Doobie Brothers”, “Don’t Shed a Tear” by Paul Carrack, as well as songs recorded and performed by Joe Cocker, Donna Summer and Martina McBride among others.
In an introductory video shown during the ceremony, his advocacy work, including with CIAM, was highlighted. In it Mr. Schwartz stated, “I see a whole generation of songwriters and artists who I think are incredibly talented. I see how hard they struggle to make a living. If we want people to be able to devote their lives to music, then they have to be able to put food on the table and a roof over their head.”
