Ukhozi Thando Nyameni

Africa’s largest radio station Ukhozi FM discusses CIAM and what it means for African music creators with Thando Nyameni

CIAM Executive Committee member Thando Nyameni was invited by Ukhozi FM’s Vuka Afrika Breakfast Show to talk about CIAM and what it means for creators in South Africa and the continent as a whole. You can listen to the interview in Zulu here.

Ukhozi is the continent’s largest radio station with 7.7 million listeners. For the entire month of October, only local music has been played on the station to boost royalties for South African artists in honor of Music Month.

DJ Sggemeza congratulated and asked Thando about his new role on the Executive Committee. Thando explained that CIAM is the global umbrella for music creators and, for the first time since its founding in 1966, Africa has a seat in the ExCo. Thando said it’s a huge step forward to allow Africa to participate in decision making and help drive programs to support marginalized groups. He drew attention to how the role means accountability in supporting Africa’s music market and facilitating collaborations among African and international music creators.

On Ukhozi, Thando said that this was made possible with CAPASSO’s nomination, with support from MCSA and SAMRO.
