WIPO Magazine interviews CIAM Vice President Solange Cesarovna

CIAM Vice President and African Music Academy Representative Solange Cesarovna was interviewed by WIPO Magazine about her experiences setting up the Cabo Verde Music Society (SCM), the country's first collective management organisation, and the knowledge platform CLIP launched by WIPO and the Music Rights Awareness Foundation. Solange supports CLIP through participating in WIPO events and explaining rights and other complex subjects for creators.

The singer songwriter, known as the Queen of Morna, explained how music professionals were unable to obtain compensation for their work because of the lack of a professional system.

"...we vowed to fight for our dream: that no songwriter, composer or artist in Cabo Verde should die without the chance to defend their copyright."

SCM now represents more than 1,700 members.
