CIAM’s Latin American Partner ALCAM meets in Santiago del Chile
CIAM’s partner alliance for Latin America, the Alianza Latinoamericana de Compositores y Autores de Música (ALCAM) held an open board meeting in Santiago del Chile on 27 April to which CIAM president, Lorenzo Ferrero was invited.
The main agenda items included discussing the new social media strategy being implemented to reach individual creators and organisations throughout the region as well as several local issues such as the Brazilian draft legislation proposal to introduce exceptions for music in hotels. An update was also given on the new copyright law in Ecuador followed by a discussion on methods to increase cooperation with artists/performers organisations.
Bringing an international perspective to the discussion, the CIAM president then reported on MCNA and ECSA initiatives regarding Safe Harbour/Value gap at the US Copyright Office and the EU Parliament. The board decided to support CIAM’s global initiative regarding establishing a common 70-years copyright protection, which includes actions in Canada, Uruguay, Bolivia and several other countries in Asia-Pacific.
On the same day, ALCAM members registered the alliance as a non-profit organisation under Chilean law. This initiative will further increase its capacity to lobby for creators’ rights in the region and to administrate related funding.[us_single_image image="894" size="full"]ALCAM also took part in the 30th anniversary celebrations for the Chilean performing rights society, Sociedad Chilena del Derecho de Autor (SCD Chile).
