12th Annual Assembly of Alcam Música Brings Together Leaders and Strengthens Guidelines for the Protection of Latin American Creators
Buenos Aires hosted the 12th Annual Assembly of Alcam Música, the Latin American Association of Composers and Music Authors, on August 28th and 29th. The event had the support of Sadaic and the participation of representatives from various regional organizations, including Agadu from Uruguay, Abramus and UBC from Brazil, Apa from Paraguay, Sobodaycom from Bolivia, Acam from Costa Rica, Spac from Panama, Apdayc from Peru, SCD from Chile, and Sadaic from Argentina, with remote contributions from Aei from Guatemala, Sacm from Mexico, and Sayce from Ecuador.
The assembly focused on strengthening guidelines for the protection of Latin American music creators and introducing the new leadership team of Alcam Música, led by Juca Novaes (Brazil) as president, Magdalena Matthey (Chile) as vice president, Diego Drexler (Uruguay) as general secretary, Geraldo Vianna (Brazil) as treasurer, Mónica Vélez (Mexico) as gender director, Carlos "Cuqui" Simoes (Argentina) as territorial manager, Diego Traverso (Uruguay) as project manager, Trinidad Rodas (Chile) as administrative coordinator, and Diego Coiro Tortorelli (Brazil) as communication coordinator.
During the event, the new Alcam Música brand was launched, and projects were presented aimed at strengthening dialogue between authors’ societies and music creators. One of the highlights was the launch of "ENCUENTROS ALCAM," a program that guides creators on copyright issues.
Additionally, roundtable discussions were held on current topics, such as Artificial Intelligence and copyright, presented by Juca Novaes, and inclusion, gender, and equity, with the participation of notable female authors such as Teresa Parodi from Argentina, Aline Gonçalves and Daisy Cordeiro from Brazil, Marcela Morelo from Argentina, Marcela de la Garza from Mexico, Magdalena Matthey from Chile, Mónica Vélez from Mexico, and Samantha Navarro from Uruguay. The closing session featured Milagros Amorena from Altafonte Argentina and Diego Drexler, who discussed the challenges creators face in the digital landscape.
Alcam Música also announced new projects, such as the "ALCAM Composition Camp," whose first edition will take place in Uruguay in November 2025, an itinerant festival aimed at promoting the exchange and recognition of composers across the continent, and the "Alcam Ambassadors" program, which seeks the active participation of composers from the region.
