CIAM announces new President and Executive Committee for 2024-2026
Paris – November 1st, 2024 – The International Council of Music Creators (CIAM), the global unified voice of music creators, has announced the election of a new President and Executive Committee for 2024-2026. The announcement took place at the CIAM General Assembly (GA) in Montreal, hosted by SOCAN, on October 23rd.
The new CIAM President is musician and songwriter Arriën Molema of BumaStemra (Netherlands). Arriën is an award-winning artist, songwriter, and composer from the Netherlands. An advocate for creators, Arriën was Vice Chair of BumaStemra, ECSA board member, and is part of the supervisory board of HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. He is the founder of Dutch Songwriters Society (BAM! Popauteurs), the fastest and largest growing songwriter society for pop music in the Netherlands. He has been active in increasing involvement of the next generation of creators, ensuring creators are heard in the development of new technologies, in cultural policy, and in society as well as in implementing best governance practices.
In being elected, Arriën Molema said, "It's an absolute honor to have been elected as President of CIAM. I'm looking forward to work on our mission of ensuring fair remuneration for creators worldwide and making sure that the voice of music creators is heard loud and clear in the music industry, at the policy-level, and in the halls of power. With the challenges ahead (e.g. like AI), I'm glad that we have a knowledgeable and diverse ExCo that is well-connected to creators worldwide, and we'll be able to rely on this knowledge to work on our mission. Many thanks to my predecessor Eddie Schwartz for his diligent work and for getting me involved in CIAM."
Arriën Molema succeeds President Eddie Schwartz, whose maximum 6-year term ended at the CIAM GA.
Paying tribute to outgoing President Eddie Schwartz, CISAC Director General Gadi Oron said: “Eddie is not only a very talented songwriter, he has been a wonderful colleague and one of the most dedicated activists and spokespersons for music creators. I would also like to warmly congratulate Arriën Molema on his election and will look forward to working together alongside him and the new CIAM team on all the huge challenges we face”.
