Fair Trade Music International announces 2024 FTMI Award winners at CIAM General Assembly in Montreal
Fair Trade Music International announced its second annual Fair Trade Music International Awards at the CIAM General Assembly in Montreal on October 24th. The awards recognize outstanding contributions to the cause of fair remuneration for music creators.
The 2024 FTMI Award winners are renowned songwriter, composer, and inaugural Minister of Culture for Argentina, Teresa Parodi, and 20-year advocate for creators’ rights and supporter of CMO development across Asia-Pacific, Satoshi Watanabe.
Teresa Parodi is a SADAIC board member and the first woman to become Minister of Culture in Argentina. In accepting the award, Teresa said, “Music is without a doubt the most luminous of languages that people have to describe themselves…Defending the rights of these creators is a task that must be carried out with passion, commitment, and joy.”
Described by Lorenzo Ferraro, Satoshi Watanabe feels “the moral duty to do much more to address the difficulties of the world surrounding them.” His efforts include creating CMOs in territories where there was none or the existing CMO was small or had special difficulties. Satoshi helped establish the Asia-Pacific Music Alliance and create a fund that supports societies.
