CIAM Songwriting Camp Video

Unity through music shines in new video of CIAM International Women's Songwriting Camp in Rio

The International Council of Music Creators (CIAM) hosted talented women from around the world for a unique songwriting camp at the renown visomdigital Studios in Rio de Janeiro. The camp, held November 6th-8th, 2023, allowed women music creators to unite over creating music and sharing their expertise in writing, composing, beat-making and production. The resulting songs were debuted at the Rio de Janeiro CIAM General Assembly on November 9th.

CIAM is actively engaged in efforts to raise awareness and support for underrepresented groups within the music industry. Women music creator membership and income is relatively low throughout the industry compared to male counterparts. Through the use of role models, shared experiences, and exchanging expertise, CIAM hopes to encourage greater balance in gender representation.

The camp also shone a spotlight on the impact and influence of Latin America in music. With five writers from Latin America, the event allowed women creators from around the world to make music with those from one of the most dynamic parts of the globe today.

CIAM President Eddie Schwartz said:

“I am delighted that CIAM, the global voice of music creators, has been able to organise this songwriting camp providing a platform for female music creators from all over the world to share their experience and expertise. In this way CIAM brings its skills and influence to support gender equity at an international level ”

Netherlands singer-songwriter and producer Zanillya said:

“The impact of the female writing camp goes beyond the songs written. It's about the connections made, barriers broken, and collaborations formed. Together, we're increasing gender equality in music by supporting each other and by not being afraid to showcase our talents.”

Cabo Verde songwriter and SCM observer Solange Cesarovna said:

"In a world where sadly less than 2% of music producers are female, the CIAM camp not only facilitated the creation of over 20 captivating new compositions, entirely created and produced by women, but also played a crucial role in raising awareness about gender disparities within the music industry. It provided a platform for women creators from different parts of the world to connect, enabling us to explore new musical endeavors together and support each other's artistic visions."

The following songwriters participated in this inaugural camp:
